About Robert E Lee

Robert E. Lee (1807–1870) was an American general and military engineer best known for commanding the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia during the American Civil War. A graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, he initially served in the U.S. Army and was recognized for his leadership and tactics, particularly during battles like Antietam and Gettysburg. After the war, Lee became president of Washington College (now Washington and Lee University) in Lexington, Virginia, promoting reconciliation and education in the post-war South.
